PO: Aziz Ansari’s Intimate Moments For A Sensual Evening

Ansari, Aziz – Intimate Moments For A Sensual Evening

I’m not sure how many are you were familiar with Mr. Ansari before Judd Apatow’s Funny People earlier this year, but his character Randy was just another in a long line of funny moments for Aziz. I first caught wind of him via MTV’s Human Giant and have since seen him light things up in Flight of the Conchords as a racist fruit vendor and the aforementioned Randy from Funny People (who is getting a spin-off movie of his own). Basically – he’s a funny, hyper-active mother fucker and I bet this thing is awesome.

Plus – how often do comedy albums come out on wax anymore? Should be in-stock in a couple weeks, comes out mid-Janruary!

Photos: Thrice Beggars

Those are the four colors we received for Thrice’s Beggars. They showed up around 7PM tonight and we will be spending all Friday packing orders in hopes that they will all ship Saturday. To keep this process moving, time spent checking emails and private messages and such will be cut down to close to zero – we will do our best to give anyone who ordered multiple copies multiple colors and catch any color requests the best we can, but please understand that packing up 130+ Thrice records, plus anything else people ordered with these, is going to take FOREVER. And its getting late into the holiday season, I’m sure everyone would like these in their sweaty mitts as soon as possible, am I right?

Thrice Beggars Quick Update

These left California today for us up in Washington State, along with the test pressing. So we’ll have all our copies shipping at the end of the week – I’m figuring they’ll stroll in Wednesday/Thursday evening and then go out on either Friday/Saturday. Everyone will get some sort of shipping confirmation email, so you’ll know when to start watching for your orders.

Oh – and the test pressing is coming with the records so whoever the winner is, you’ll be getting it with your record. Its like a Willy Wonka thing, the golden ticket and shit. :)

We will be doing our best to get these orders out in one swoop, but please bare in mind that they won’t be shipping until the end of the week and that the holiday logjam has been going on for awhile at the USPS. If you want to upgrade your shipping to make damn sure this comes to you before Christmas, you’ve got a couple days left to do so. Just drop us an email – orders@nerdalertrecords.com – for a quote.

Thanks!

Brand New’s Devil and God… Canceled?

The net has been bursting at the seams with news that the long-awaited vinyl version of Brand New’s Devil and God… album, set to be released next month by Triple Crown Records, has been canceled. At the same time, another rumor about a different label handling the same release has begun to spread as well.

Here’s what I personally know: the first distributor (an indie) we ordered these from was told me today that it has been canceled. I asked the same question to the distributor that was to provided is with the majority of our copies (and is also one of the major label owned distros) and was told the only change was in the release date…which was the same one we already had, Jan. 12th.

I replied back to the latter and asked if they were completely sure on that and/or if they had already made plans for the Triple Crown copies sold to be replaced with copies from the mystery label or just what the hell is going on. Once I hear back from him, probably Monday, I’ll send out a mass email to all of those who pre-ordered it through us to let you know if we can still get you a record in the same time frame or if we’ll be sending out refunds (or store credit or swaps – its up to each of you, whatever you do is fine by us!).

Because of this, we are looking into introducing a new way of doing pre-orders for music, adopting the model used by Target for video games where for $5 you get reserves your spot in the proverbial line and a $5 gift certificate good towards any future purchase, including for the pre-ordered item. Details being worked out though, so it might be awhile before this goes into effect, if ever.

Hang tight till Monday everyone – once we get the answer, I’ll drop everyone an email and let you know what’s going on. Just to be sure its clear – if its canceled, all pre-orders will be immedately refunded or turned into different records, your choice. :)

Alright, time to get the mail ready for tomorrow!

Coming Soon: Motion City Soundtrack My Dinosaur Life

MCSDINO.jpg

Motion City Soundtrack – My Dinosaur Life

I realize this is jumping the gun, but its never too early to get excited about new music from great bands. Though it took a few listens, I really fell in love with MCS’ last album, and obviously the two before were excellent as well. So you can imagine that I am looking forward to their next release, and first for Columbia Records, My Dinosaur Life. There are no announced formats for this record, but you have to assume at this point that we can expect a CD, vinyl and digital release. Well, at least that is what I am assuming!

PO: Tom Waits – Glitter and Doom Live – Vinyl

763286e9e069fc44782abdd024ebcba6.jpg

Waits, Tom – Glitter and Doom Live

Vinyl version of the brand new live Tom Waits album, Glitter and Doom Live, coming out December 8th on Anti- Records. LP ships with a gatefold jacket and a download card but does not include the Tom Tales disc, which is exclusive to the CD version.

Anti- has this to say about the record:

Available November 23rd, Glitter and Doom is a 2 disc collection of the best of the best tracks from Tom Waits’ sold out, highly acclaimed Glitter and Doom tour of the US and Europe in the summer of 2008.

[The album] is designed to sound like one evening’s performance, even though the 17 tracks are selected from 10 cities, from Paris to Birmingham; Tulsa to Milan; and Atlanta to Dublin. Sonically the album is superb and has been beautifully recorded and meticulously mastered .

Musically, the live disc features all eras of Waits’ eclectic glory as he shifts seamlessly from an array of characters: carnival barker, preacher, country singer, soul balladeer; cabaret singer and storyteller. Backed by a versatile 5 piece band, Waits departs from the songs’ original incarnations. The songs instrumentation and rhythms are rearranged and re-imagined. Swampy tribal rhythms, ominous hymns, gypsy flavored ballads, searing rhythmic r&b, and blues boogies. angular and surreal rock are all present. The songs, as expected ,are about hanged men, woebegone sailors, sword swallowers, fugitives, shamans, ghosts, dance instructors and prison guards.”

PO: Vandals, Blink 182 reissues (now on picture discs as well!)
We have officially started taking pre-orders for the following Kung Fu Records reissues:

Blink 182 – Buddha
Vandals, The – Peace Thru Vandalism
Vandals, The – When in Rome Do As the Vandals

Due note that Peace Thru Vandalism and Buddha are being reissued in two versions – one regular, one picture disc. Neither album has been pressed on a picture disc before. I also have no idea about rarity on either of these, but you have to think with the slightly higher price that the picture discs are going to be slightly more rare, but we’ll see.

Though they are not live yet, we will be taking pre-orders for the CD versions as well.

PO: Rage Against the Machine – S/T 180 Gram

Rage Against the Machine – Rage Against the Machine

I know that this album blew a lot of minds when it originally dropped and when I dug it out of my CD collection last year, I was surprised to find how little the music’s quality diminished over time. Obviously, this is hard as fuck to find on vinyl, so its with a big grin that I announce we’ve started taking pre-orders for the upcoming Music on Vinyl 180 gram reissue of Rage Against the Machine’s self-titled album. Imported from the Netherlands.

PO: Cold Cave – Love Comes Close

Cold Cave – Love Comes Close

I didn’t realize this was the new musical outlet from one Wes Eisold, from unknown bands such as American Nightmare, Some Girls and Give Up the Ghost. Once I did, I realized that it deserved front page mention for sure. Set to drop in a couple weeks!
